A Chill Night with Daffo in Philadelphia

I went to see Daffo in Philadelphia on 01/24, right before the snowstorm hit, and these are my thoughts from being at the show.
According to Daffo themself, this was their first time ever headlining a tour since college, when they played house shows. For their Philadelphia stop, they played at PhilaMOCA, located on North 12th Street. According to the venue’s website, PhilaMOCA is housed inside the historic Finney & Son building, which dates back to 1865 and was once a mausoleum showroom. Short for the Philadelphia Mausoleum of Contemporary Art, PhilaMOCA is a multipurpose art space that spotlights underground, alternative, and DIY culture, with an emphasis on film and performance.
From the outside, the venue looks very historic, with warm-toned brick walls. To get inside, you have to go through two doors back to back, which I found interesting. Inside, the space feels intimate, with posters lining the walls. The stage is fairly small, and so is the audience area, which adds to the close, personal atmosphere.
earth 2 tiffany opened the night. This was my first time hearing her music, and I’m happy to say she made a great impression. She was a perfect opener for the show. Her set consisted of just her and an acoustic guitar, which felt especially fitting for a space like PhilaMOCA. One of her original songs that stood out to me the most was “take me there.” It’s incredibly catchy. My absolute favorite moment of her set was her cover of “Only Love Can Break Your Heart” by Neil Young. The song fits her vocals PERFECTLY. It felt like a warm hug before the snowstorm approached. I really wish there were a recording available for streaming.
Daffo took the stage around 9:00 PM. Their set was very chill. They opened with “Get a Life,” which I thought was a solid choice and did a great job setting the tone for the rest of the night. Most of the songs they performed shared a similar laid-back vibe, which again felt perfectly matched to the venue. It felt like a scene from a coming-of-age movie where the main character goes to a show, looking for a little more color to add to their life.
My favorite song from their set was “Seed.” It started out very calm and relaxed, much like the rest of the set, but as the song went on, the pace, volume, and texture gradually built up. That moment ended up being my favorite of the entire night.
Most of the audience seemed to be Daffo’s fans rather than people there to discover new sounds. During moments when I took a break from watching the stage, I noticed people dancing and just vibing with each other. It felt really wholesome.
Overall, the show just felt right. The small space, the timing right before the snowstorm, and how comfortable everyone seemed made the night feel really personal. It was the kind of show where nothing big or dramatic needed to happen for it to be memorable. People were just there, enjoying the music, dancing a little, and existing in the moment.
