Chappell Roan Is The Giver We All Needed

by Caitlin Dennis | March 18th, 2025

On Thursday pop sensation Chappell Roan released her newest single ‘The Giver’. A fun, fresh, queer country pop anthem. Chappell’s skyrocket to fame over the last couple of years has been a blast to watch. She is a fierce advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community and quickly became a household name. Her fierce drag looks have created her signature aesthetic and she has made her way on to the ‘pop-girlies’ list. Her voice is incredibly unique and she's definitely one of my favorite artists.

She’s been teasing the single for a hot minute now, with billboards popping up around the country advertising to call ‘620-HOT-TO-GO’ for Chappel, in various careers from a handy man to a lawyer, to help you ‘get the job done.’ The song itself is an up beat lesbian love story of a woman who can get the job done better than those silly country men. She’s all about giving! Letting listeners know she ‘ain’t no country boy quitter’ and ‘she gets the job done.” The song is incredibly catchy, as her music tends to be, and you just find yourself singing the chorus to yourself all day, or at least I do. It just makes you wanna dance around in your cowboy boots!

There has been some discourse for as long as I can remember about artists jumping from genre to genre and what these artists are trying to do. I think Chappell put it pretty well when she said “I'm not trying to convince a country crowd that they should listen to my music by baiting them with a country song. That's not what I feel like I'm doing. I just think a lesbian country song is really funny. So I wrote that.”  Enough said.

There were also release night events around the country, and I was lucky enough to pop into the one in Chicago! Fans turned up in their best midwest princess outfits, double denim, and cowboy boots for a night of Chappell Roan’s hits, as well as lots of other female country artists. There were drag performances, free posters for fans, and plenty of excitement to go around as fans danced all night! The bar was packed and there was even a line outside on a Thursday night for everyone’s favorite midwest princess. Keep your eyes on Chappell, I have a feeling she's got some big plans in the future!
