Daffo's Latest Release "Habit" Grows Anticipation For Upcoming Album Release

On June 26th, Daffo put out their latest single Habit ahead of the release of their debut album Where the Earth Bends which will come out on September 26th. Habit has the grungy sound that Daffo is known for in many of their other songs, and is sure to get stuck in your head upon the first listen. My favorite part of the song is the bridge, which states, “By the size of your head, you must know everything. Every small consequence that knowing everything brings. Which means that you must know better, but you don’t want to admit that all the pain gives you pleasure, and you just don’t want to quit.” I feel that these lyrics excellently highlight what it’s like to have a bad habit, whether that be holding grudges, drinking, or other behaviors we tend to find hard to kick.

Daffo also released a music video in tandem with the single. It depicts the band playing in a basement that looks as if it were just being used for a party. There are streamers hung on doorways, and solo cups littering the floor. The scene cuts between the band performing the song and lead singer Gabi Gamberg sitting at a table and smoking a cigarette. The grungy vibes of the video perfectly complement the feeling and themes in the song, and make for a fun watch as a fan of the band.

I had the pleasure of seeing Daffo live in early June, opening for Annie DiRusso, and was absolutely taken by their music. I hadn’t heard of them before attending the concert, but found myself asking “what is this song?” after each number on their setlist. Their twangy punk sound is exactly up my alley, and I quickly began seeking out more music by them after the concert. A couple of other tracks off the new album that were played live include Get a Life and Quick Fix, which both explore more melancholy themes backed by a toe-tapping beat.

Daffo is the moniker used by Gabi Gamberg, a 21-year-old singer/songwriter who writes beautiful music to back introspective lyrics that capture the coming-of-age experience. Habit, along with other Daffo songs, exhibits such raw emotion and feeling that is hard to come by, and the honesty of their art is refreshing. I highly recommend streaming Daffo’s music and following them on socials to stay up to date with shows and new music.
