Friday Pilot’s Club, one of my new favorite Chicago bands, hosted a “Vampire Disco” this past weekend to bring their “Nowhere North America Tour” to a close and kick off the halloweekend. Fans were given instructions to arrive in their best vampire or disco attire, and boy did people show up and show out. Everyone looked absolutely stunning and there was even someone dressed up in an Egyptian inspired costume with an elaborate llama headpiece, and despite being slightly off theme, it was a hit with every passerby stopping to compliment the costume.
As excitement started to fill the Metro, the first of two opening bands took the stage. Family Dinner is a rock band from Long Beach, NY with a fresh grungy sound. All the members of course were dressed up with painted faces, capes, and cowboy hats. Their energy on stage was vibrant and the band was clearly having a great time and soaking in the last night of tour. With a strong female lead vocalist I definitely think they are a band to keep on your radar, especially to put on your list of smaller bands to gatekeep as they continue to grow.
Soon after Family Dinner left the stage, Capital Soiree made their way to the stage in their vampire disco outfits to a crowd of fans growing more and more excited as the disco continued. Capital Soiree is an indie rock band from Chicago with a more mellow rock sound in comparison to Family Dinner. That didn't stop them from bringing their all to the stage. They were so much fun to watch and know how to put on a show, while also sounding wonderful. They are definitely going to be added to my playlist and on my list of favorite Chicago bands.
Then the moment everyone was waiting for, the vampire disco hosts themselves finally graced the stage in classic 70s disco outfits accompanied by vampire bites and makeup. Friday Pilots Club entering sent the venue into an uproar and the disco began. They released their latest album “Nowhere” back in May of this year and it is one of those albums that just makes you wanna jump up and down. I would describe their sound as a blend of The Driver Era meets Palaye Royale, giving that classing beat heavy rocky indie/alt sound. They of course have their slower ballads as well but I think their sound is distinctive and I am so glad my mutual friend introduced me to their music and I would highly recommend you give them a listen. They put on quite the show as well, and it was clear they were excited to be back home playing at the gorgeous Metro for their wonderful fans! Overall, great show and I would encourage everyone who enjoys alternative music to check out all three of these bands.
