Since the release of her debut album Cacophony in 2024, a collection of stories told through the lens of Greek mythology and society's obsession with the  patriarchy that defines our world, Paloma has made a massive name for herself within the genre with her ferociously feminine lyrics and heartfelt storytelling.  Going strong since her breakout single labour was released in 2023, which has amassed billions of streams across all platforms as well as going viral on social media, Paris Paloma has become the next huge voice within the indie music scene and shows absolutely no signs of slowing down anytime soon. We would like to express massive gratitude to Live Nation and Revolutions Per Minute PR for having us cover the show.

January 11th marked Paloma’s inaugural performance in Australia’s Fortitude Valley at the iconic venue that all Brisbane locals know, The Tivoli. The air was brisk and the sky was overcast with the setting sun only just peeking over the horizon. Fans donned ethereal, fairy/medieval-esque outfits, ranging from lace corsets and flowy layered skirts to wearing elf ears and covering themselves head to toe in glitter. As doors opened slightly later than expected, excited fans were finally able to rush inside and spread themselves out across the venue from the stage barrier to the merch stall. Fans were extremely respectful and quiet during intermission while waiting patiently for the opener of the night, Aussie multi-instrumentalist, EMEREE

Not long after 8pm hit, EMEREE (real name Gabrielle Emery) strutted confidently out onto the stage like she owned the place. The audience cheered excitedly as she began her half an hour set. Dressed up in an outfit that looked like the roaring 1920’s had a baby with the flower power era of the 60’s, EMEREE’s set beautifully showcased her passion for innovative dance, performance, and fashion while also allowing plenty of room to show off her incredible four-octave range, with each whistle note eliciting both loud cheers and stunned faces from the crowd.

A few minutes after EMEREE successfully warmed up the crowd, and made a few new fans along the way, the clock struck 9pm and the houselights dimmed while slow and ambient music echoed off the venue walls, which fans immediately recognised as the track hunter, causing an eruption of screams and cheers in anticipation for Paloma’s grand entrance. Before long, the curtains on the side stage began to ruffle as Paloma pranced out and spun onto the stage like a whimsical, care-free fairy with a massive smile plastered on her face. The audience sang along the instant the lyrics were on cue, and made Paloma instantly feel right at home on the Australian stage. As she went through the setlist, Paloma made sure to fill in the moments between songs with banter and gratitude for the audience, stating that she never thought her music would get as far as to reaching Australian shores let alone playing multiple sold out shows across the country. As the show continued on, Paloma played a combination of her earlier tracks, from the fruits to the warmth, as well as multiple tracks from her 2024 debut album like labour and drywall

The show was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. From the RnB/pop fusion tracks of opener EMEREE, to the fans who dressed beautifully for the occasion and sung their hearts out on every track, to the ethereal vocals and intense femininity of Paris Paloma, the entire performance was filled with tender audience moments mixed with the high energy of experiencing a sold-out show surrounded by other people who share the same love and admiration for Paloma’s music. The venue transformed into a safe space, where fans made new friends and exchanged a mixture of kind notes, poems, and friendship bracelets with each other. The entire space transformed into a wholesome room filled with love and respect for one another, while living in the moment. In a world where concert etiquette is becoming increasingly forgotten by the day, it was beautiful to see. Paloma exceeded my expectations, and I cannot wait to see what her future within music looks like.
