ITZY was Born For This: Born To Be World Tour in Dallas Review

by Britney McVey | July 15th , 2024

The Toyota Music Pavilion in Dallas, Texas, was electrified on June 16th as ITZY’s "Born to Be World Tour" hit the stage with a force that can only be described as unstoppable. Dressed in an outfit inspired by ITZY’s "Cake" music video, I was fully immersed in the night’s magic, with the girls bringing their A-game to a crowd that was buzzing with anticipation.

As the lights dimmed and the venue fell into a hush, the iconic intro to "BORN TO BE" pulsed through the speakers. The moment was cinematic. The members of ITZY emerged, draped in striking black and red leather and latex ensembles that spoke volumes about their commanding presence. "I was born to be, born to be, a queen" echoed in my mind as they owned the stage, proving that they were not just performing, but making a bold statement.

The first act continued to build on this high with "RACER," "KIDDING ME," and "Mr. Vampire," each song further showcasing the group's dynamic range. I was the most excited for “Mr. Vampire”, as the dance has been one of my favorite choregraphies of theirs since it’s release. "SWIPE" had everyone on their feet, the infectious beats perfectly syncing with the crowd’s energy. And when "WANNABE" came on, the crowd erupted in unison, screaming the lyrics back at the stage, "I don’t wanna be somebody, just wanna be me, be me." It was a powerful testament to ITZY’s unique ability to connect with their audience.

Act II shifted gears with solo performances that highlighted each member’s individual talent. Chaeryeong’s "Mine" was a dreamy experience with its large three-panel mirror and her flowing white outfit that added a touch of ethereal beauty. Ryujin’s "Run Away" featured a setup that was both intimate and edgy, with her leather jacket and the presence of a teddy bear symbolizing a playful yet fierce attitude. Yuna’s "Yet, but" was a sparkling spectacle, with her pink outfit and diamond prop creating a dazzling display. Her appearance in a shopping cart added an extra layer of fun, proving she can deliver both glamour and whimsy effortlessly. Yeji closed the solos with "Crown on My Head," her commanding presence and intricate dance moves set against a backdrop of rotating crown imagery. It was clear from her performance that she is a true powerhouse. ITZY’s fifth member, Lia, has been on hiatus since this past September, and is expected to make her return within the upcoming months.

Act III brought us back to the high-energy vibe with "UNTOUCHABLE," "Gas Me Up," "Dynamite," "Psychic Lover," "Don't Give a What," and "LOCO." Each track was a testament to ITZY’s versatility, with "LOCO" being an undeniable highlight as the crowd screamed, “I’m so, I’m so, I’m so LOCO!” The infectious energy and perfect choreography kept everyone engaged and moving.

The final act was a whirlwind of fan favorites starting with "Not Shy," "CAKE," and "SNEAKERS," leading into the thrilling "Kill Shot" and "Escalator." The energy never waned, each song a celebration of ITZY's remarkable journey and growth.

For the encore, the girls returned in white tour tees and light blue bottoms, a refreshing color palette that matched the celebratory mood. The encore set included "LOVE is," "Be in Love," "Boys Like You," and "DALLA DALLA." As they performed "DALLA DALLA," the entire venue joined in, chanting the post- chorus with fervor: "I love myself (Hey) 난 뭔가 달라, 달라, yeah." The final bows were met with thunderous applause, proving that ITZY’s fans are as loyal as they are enthusiastic.

Leaving the Toyota Music Pavilion, it was clear that ITZY’s "Born to Be World Tour" was a resounding success. The concert was a rollercoaster of emotions, from powerful performances to joyous anthems. Their ability to deliver a show that is both visually stunning and emotionally engaging is a testament to their immense talent and charisma. This night will definitely be one for the books, especially with the groups commitment to a spectacular setlist, a perfect mix for both old and new MIDZY (ITZY fans).
