At just 21 years old Jazmin Bean (they/them) has been making waves for alternative artists globally since late 2018.
Jazmin is from North London and with parents like Ginger Wildheart and Angie Adams, it’s no surprise that Jazmin possesses the same musical gene as their folks. At age 16, Jazmin released their debut single, “Worldwide Torture,” on YouTube and their debut album, “Traumatic Livelihood,” in Feburary 2024.
In addition to their music, Jazmin is known for their alternative makeup looks (which later transpired into Cult Candy Cosmetics), non-binary gender expression, and experimental style. For the last few years, Jazmin has been working on developing their music into something different with influences from hyper-pop, metal, grunge, goth, and everything in between.
On September 7th, Jazmin kicked off their fall tour in Vancouver, CA to celebrate the release of “Traumatic Livelihood” and I had the exciting opportunity to catch their last US date in New York City on October 7th. Comet, a New York-based artist set the night for an evening of unforgettable music, hyping the crowd up with their own grungy, shoegazey sound.
The most remarkable thing about Jazmin Bean is how dedicated their fans are. Despite Comet being a relatively small artist, plenty of fans knew their music and sang along to every song. And when Jazmin finally made their appearance on stage, the crowd practically exploded. It was almost difficult to hear Jazmin from how loud the crowd was singing along. Couples held each other during slow songs, friends sang to one another at the top of their lungs, and even parents jumped up on their feet to dance with their children. As Jazmin performed, the energy in the venue only became more and more vibrant.
Jazmin Bean proved to be an incredible artist, demonstrating a strong understanding of what makes live music a performance. Their entire aesthetic was–and continues to be–a testament to their unwavering individuality and they embrace their individual quirkiness with confidence, breaking down the normative expectations of queer artists in the music industry.
In just a few days, Jazmin will finish out their fall tour by making a few stops across Europe before landing back in England. See below for remaining tour dates.
