Movements signed to Fearless Records shortly after forming in 2015 and has gained quite the fan base over the years, especially after being on the entire lineup for Warped Tour 2017. Hailing from Rancho Santa Margarita, California, Movements is back on the road to promote their third album Ruckus!, which was released back in August of 2023. Bringing three bands along to open on the tour, their stop in Richmond, VA was sure to be an eventful evening. Only four shows into the US leg of their tour, Movements performed at The National in Richmond Virginia for a packed audience on April 9, 2024.

Kicking off the show was French band, PAERISH, who performed as the first opener of the night. On their first ever US tour supporting Movements, they delighted the crowd with an energy-filled performance of alt-rock songs off their latest album. The next band to open was three-piece, Webbed Wing, who’s performance consisted more of pop melodies while still maintaining a punk vibe. Tigers Jaw finished warming up the audience, keeping them engaged and anticipating what was to come.

The venue was now full of excited fans waiting for Movements to take the stage. When the house lights dimmed, the booming bass line of “Lead Pipe” blasted through the monitors as Movements took the stage in full swing. The crowd immediately started to come alive screaming and jumping to the opening verse. Immediately following the end of the song, the band continued to play, leading into the slower instrumentals of “Full Circle”. The enthusiasm in the atmosphere picked back up and the room buzzed with the groovy and sensual beat during Movements’ performance of their hit single “Cherry Thrill”.

Throughout the night, the energy levels waxed and waned as Movements played through their set. During the fast, up-beat songs there was no end to the amount of crowd surfing and dancing in the audience. In between all of the crowdsurfing, plenty of moshing occurred in the pit from spirited fans while the band proceeded to match the energy with their stage presence.

The crowd had waited patiently all night longing to hear Movements’ hit song from their first album and their most played song on Spotify. They were ultimately treated to the final song of the evening, “Daylily”. The feeling was bittersweet knowing the show was coming to an end, making sure to enjoy the fleeting moments by belting out the refreshing lyrics of the last chorus of the night. The song’s ballad-like melody was a great way to add a sense of hope and belonging to the end of a wonderful night of music.
