Sorn is done with fake friends in ‘Not A Friend’

by Britney McVey | March 4th, 2023

On Friday, March 3rd, Thai singer, Sorn, released her newest single, ‘Not A Friend’ following her promotions about fake friends, which built up the suspense to the release.

Many of the posts have since been deleted, letting speculations arise about the posts, questioning if the content was about someone from Sorn’s past, or just a genius marketing tactic.

The song starts with a sample of Sorn practicing the chorus, followed by vocal bassline samples to transcend into the first verse:

“She said, baby girl, it's been forever
Did I forget? Must've lost your number
Sorry, I've just been so unavailable
I can barely breathe
Feel like I'm inside walls around my mind
And my paranoia's eating me alive
I just can't believe, half the things I see
Haven't been myself, no, I been half-asleep”

While the lyrics showcase a more vulnerable side of the singer, Sorn’s sass and creativity that fans love is heard through the upbeat instrumental and shown through the official lyric video.

If we have learned anything from artists such as Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor swift, it is safe to say that ‘Not a Friend’ is absolutely a boss babe style song. Lyrics such as “When is a friend not a friend?/ Like if on my phone your hand's in my hand/ But you ghost when I needed you the most then/ Why you call me friend?” and “So you like to say in that drama type of way/ And not like an Oscar, like a cabaret/ I just can't believe, half the things I see/ Something else is underneath the masquerade” make me want to put on the coolest outfit in my wardrobe and sing my heart out.

The former CLC member spoke about the song with Bandwagon Asia, stating:

“To me, this song is about how complex modern friendships can be— and not just in the industry, but in general. I think it’s something everyone can at some level relate to. I’m just done with fake friends.”

And I think that everyone can agree that fake friends do not deserve to stay in anyone’s life.
