On the rise and officially on everyone’s radar — NYC-born Sombr just dropped his highly anticipated single We Never Dated on Friday, June 20th, 2025.

He first teased the song on TikTok on May 23rd — not even a full month before release — and as soon as I heard the snippet, I froze. The line “how come we never even dated but I still find myself thinking of you daily”  hit way too close to home. It felt like he pulled that feeling straight out of my chest. And clearly, I wasn’t the only one — the snippet blew up fast, and for good reason. It soon had a release date.

We Never Dated captures that specific kind of heartbreak that isn’t always easy to explain. When you were so close to something real, but it never actually became anything. Maybe it was right person, wrong time. Maybe they just weren’t good for you. But still — it hurts. Maybe even worse, because you feel you weren’t good enough to date. They were yours, but never really yours…yet somehow it still feels like you lost them.

I recently went through something that made this song feel way too real and personal for me. We never dated, never had an official title, but it still messed me up. It’s that weird limbo where you’re not even speaking anymore, but they’re still constantly stuck in your head. It feels like you’re stuck in limerence. You’re left thinking about them every day, even when you don’t want to be. And eventually, you start to realize they weren’t even that great… but that doesn’t stop you from missing them and your memories together.

Sombr put all of that into words — the longing, the confusion, the ache of wanting someone who couldn’t or wouldn’t be yours. And the most frustrating part of all: knowing that no matter how much you care, you can’t make someone love you back.

At only 19, Sombr already has this way of writing that feels brutally honest but comforting at the same time. He knows exactly what to say to make you feel seen, his raw and passionate lyrics cut so deep. Tiktok even has this running joke that he writes music like he’d be a middle aged divorced dad— because of how real his lyrics are. Sombr has earned his spot on everyone’s playlists, and is climbing the charts fast! Catch him on his headline tour this fall, this show will give you FOMO!
