Troye Sivan released his fourth full-length album She’s The Best on October 9th. The eleven tracks balance vulnerability and enthusiasm relating to romantic endeavours. Notable writers on the project include George Daniel of The 1975, FINNEAS, Jack Antonoff, Madonna, Sivan’s brother, Tyde Levi, and longtime collaborator Leland.

“She’s The Best” is the lead single and title track of the record. Sivan strayed from his usual style, with the lyrics being spoken word. He reflects on important women in his life and how they keep him grounded. Though the album is about his love life, Sivan recognizes that the women in his life will always be by his side, and his romantic partners may be temporary. On Instagram, he stated, “Boys have come and gone, work has come and gone, but I have always, always had my girls.”

“Party” is the album’s second single, and also the second spoken-word track. The song is ultimately a fun and energetic club anthem. The lyrics hint at the Lady Gaga meme from a 2011 interview. The song also samples Madonna’s “Music”; The icon is credited as a writer on the single. Overall, “Party” reflects that not everything has to be so intense, and that sometimes fun can be more powerful than emotional impact.

“Canada Dry” is a standout track on the record. The song explores a sexual exhibition. According to Sivan, he wrote this song with a Canadian male figure in mind, either genuine or simulated. Fans have associated the anthem with Shane Hollander of Heated Rivalry — a queer Canadian hockey player in a sex-positive show.

“Cowboy” exhibits wanting someone exactly as they are. Sivan uses the cowboy theme to share someone of some modesty, leaning into their sexuality with the right influence. He sings, “I wanna feel your shackles against my wrist / I wanna taste the blood on your busted lip,” turning the righteousness of a cowboy into something more permissive.

In “Embarrassingly,” Sivan depicts feeling a past partner’s presence and thinking of them, granted they haven’t been in his life in a blue moon. He sings, “You still come to meet me in my mind / You’ve been out my life for twice the time / I’m thankful it’s only in the night.” He is conscious of the fake reality he dreams. Sivan is humbled by his dreams — although they may be embarrassing, at least he’s the only one there to witness.

“Le Boy” is a French-influenced track about searching for the right person. While listening, the image of Sivan eating at cafes and strolling through Paris searching for his soulmate is prevalent. He describes things he has achieved, yet is hung up on finding his future partner: The Boy.

“Sex Star” details sensuality and wanting to be desired. The tune doles an airy cadence, reflecting that the lyrics are Sivan’s dreams and fantasies. Notably, singer-songwriter FINNEAS is credited as a writer.

The title “Troye Meets World” alludes to the show Boy Meets World; This is established through the line “Boy meet universe, Troye meets world.” Sivan electronically manipulates his voice to encompass a club atmosphere. Like “Party,” both songs dispense a lighthearted, upbeat vibe.

“FF” is the third single of She’s the Best. The title is an acronym created from the song's refrain, “fucking forever.” The song and music video highlight queer liberation and prosperity. Sivan compares himself and his partner to concrete and steel; Combined, the two materials create something almost permanent and hard to break.

“Love So Big It Hurts” portrays feeling the absolute most for someone — being engulfed by them. Sivan sings of doing mundane tasks, anything to keep his mind busy. The lyrics playfully crave the ache of loving someone with lines like, “Try kiss me and I’ll kiss you first / Got you, fucker, uno reverse.”

“Lost Time” is the final track featuring Lilly-Rose Depp. Continuing the album’s French influence, the song begins with Depp speaking the language, translating to, “Are you thinking of me? / I was born in love with you / Born to know you / To name you / To love, to adore.” Sivan artistically uses autotune to add layered emotion throughout the song. The singer has dabbled in this stylistic choice in songs like “Talk talk” and “1999” with friend and collaborator Charli xcx. The pre-chorus sings, “Being busy is overrated / Just wanna stay at home and be creative.” Despite his creativity and expression in his lifestyle and career, Sivan yearns to be at home making memories with the one he loves.
