Beautiful Mind in Singapore: Heavy Setlist, Heavier Emotions

by Vy Le | July 28th, 2025

Xdinary Heroes < Beautiful Mind> live at The Star Theatre in Singapore on July 26, 2025, was something I’ve been looking forward to for months, and as someone who’s already a fan, I’ll admit upfront this review won’t be completely neutral. This isn’t a technical breakdown. I just want to reflect on whether the show lived up to the months of anticipation and if it was worth every bit of effort it took to be there.

Venue-wise, The Star Theatre is great. Super easy to get to with an MRT station right next door, and plenty of food options downstairs if you’re grabbing a bite pre-show. Lines were long but moved quickly. The staff were really friendly, but security was no joke. No cameras allowed, not even film, compacts, or Polaroids. I actually saw someone get pulled aside during the show for sneaking in a Sony compact. Definitely not worth the risk.

I had VIP, which included a soundcheck, priority merch line, a lanyard, and a photocard set that came in a clear photocard book. My seat was CG floor, 4th row, right aisle. Perfect view of the boys and close enough to catch every detail, but also far enough to take in the full stage picture.

Soundcheck started at 4:30 pm and ended around 4:45 pm. For this stop, they performed three songs: “AGAIN? AGAIN!,” “Pluto,” and “Bad Chemical.” The main show began at 6:07 pm with the first VCR and wrapped up around 8:55 pm after the encore and final greeting.

The show itself was such a ride. I was especially excited for the ballad set, but weirdly, some of those didn’t hit as hard live. I think songs like “Night Before the End” and “Good Enough” just carry more weight when you’re by yourself with headphones on at 3 AM. That said, the heavy rock set? Absolutely unmatched. “FiRE (My Sweet Misery)” exploded live. I liked it from the moment it dropped, but hearing it live made me love it ten times more. It was easily the best performance of the night. “Money On My Mind” and “George the Lobster” were also major highlights, with “Love & Fear” and “Diamond” not far behind.

Jooyeon stole the entire show for me. I came in as a Jungsu and O.de bias, but Jooyeon’s stage presence was just something else. Rockstar energy from the second he stepped onstage. You could tell how much he enjoyed performing. He was constantly engaging with the crowd, completely in his element. I know earlier in the tour some fans mentioned they couldn’t hear his bass well during solos, but in this show? It was loud and clear, especially during “Bicycle” and “George the Lobster.” The second the intro hit, I was like, “ohhhh okay, we’re in.”

The setlist was incredibly well-structured (definitely the best setlist in terms of flow I’ve ever seen). Divided into seven parts, each section flowed seamlessly into the next, organized by sound, genre, and emotional weight. From the softer, sentimental tracks to the heavier rock anthems, every transition felt intentional. I don’t know how much creative input the band gets in planning these things, but I really hope we get to see them lean more into their heavier rock sound in the future, it suits them so well.

I have to mention Singapore Villains were some of the kindest and best-dressed fans I’ve ever seen. Everyone was trading freebies, hanging out before doors opened, and just being really chill and respectful. Outfit-wise? Insane. I saw fans dressed like Xdinary Heroes from that Rock the World episode where they were kindergarten students in the Lilac Class, and two people recreated O.de and Junhan’s “iNSTEAD!” looks so perfectly, they could’ve been hired as doubles.

Stage production was pretty minimal since it’s a theater show– confetti, smoke effects, some lighting tricks, and VCRs. Nothing over the top, but it worked. The energy didn’t come from the stage setup; it came from the band. And honestly, that’s exactly how a rock show should feel.

Jooyeon and Gunil were the two who left the strongest impressions on me. Like I mentioned earlier, Jooyeon’s energy was out of this world– he was definitely born to be a rockstar. Gunil, on the other hand, completely caught me off guard with how sweet he is. After the soundcheck ended, he walked around the stage to greet every section before heading backstage. Then, at the end of the night, he did it again, this time even stopping to take selfies with some fans in the middle section.

In the end, Xdinary Heroes gave us a night that was raw, high-energy, and full of heart. Not every moment was perfect, but the ones that hit, hit hard. And for me? That was more than enough.
