Cosmosy’s eye-catching debut

by Abhilasha Bhattarai | April 29th, 2025

Following a similar formula to XG, Katseye, and VCHA, a new four-member Japanese girl group has been formed by NTT Docomo Studio & Live in collaboration with Sony Music Entertainment Korea. The group debuted in Japan on December 31, 2024, with their digital single "zigy=zigy," and made their global debut on February 7, 2025. They officially debuted with the digital single "Lucky=One" on April 11, 2025.

The four-member group consists of A'mei (エイメイ), the youngest member also known as the maknae of Cosmosy, who has a rich background in hip-hop dance and a dance instructor. De_Hana (ディハナ), also known as Yoshida Hana, previously participated in "Produce 101 Japan The Girls" before joining Cosmosy. Kamión (カミオン), given name Kamio Ayano, Kamión is another former contestant of "Produce 101 Japan The Girls". Himesha (ヒメシャ), known by her birth name Himeka, she brings her experience as a dancer to the group. Although the group's official position has not yet been announced, Cosmosy has captured the hearts and attention of many fans globally since their official debut. These girls have already established a strong presence and fanbase within the Kpop and Kpop adjacent world, and I’m dying to see where they go from this impeccable debut.

The name "Cosmosy" represents the "infinity of the cosmos" and the "possibilities of youth." This reflects the group's mission to express limitless potential and growth through their music. Their official debut single, "Lucky=One," combines tropical house and vibrant pop elements, and is performed entirely in English, highlighting their global aspirations.

Cosmosy’s official debut with “Lucky = One” is a vibrant, genre-blending statement that immediately carves out their place in the competitive world of global girl groups. With members from both Japanese and Korean entertainment scenes, Cosmosy leans into their multicultural identity, and “Lucky = One” reflects that with an ambitious, polished pop sound.

From the jump, the track bursts with tropical house vibes, layered with bright synths and an upbeat tempo that practically demands a sunny dance floor. It's the kind of song you imagine playing at the climax of a teen coming-of-age movie — full of possibility, youth, and the high of something new.

Lyrically, “Lucky = One” is refreshingly positive, delivering a message about love and the start of a new relationship that feels fitting for a debut. The chorus — catchy and anthemic — ties the song together with the repeated chorus that “Got me in a small red envelope/Betcha never thought you'd strike this gold/That I'm the la-la-la lucky one/Baby the la-la-la lucky one”

Vocally, the group shows strong potential. A’mei’s youthful tone contrasts nicely with Himesha’s more grounded delivery, while Kamión and De_Hana shine in the song’s rap-like bridge, giving the track a little grit. What’s even more impressive? The entire song is in English, a bold move for a debuting J-pop/K-pop hybrid group, and a clear signal of their global ambitions.

Production-wise, “Lucky = One” doesn’t reinvent anything or create a new genre, but what it does, it does well. The mix is clean, the transitions are smooth, and the instrumentation, while not groundbreaking, supports the vocals perfectly. There’s a futuristic edge to the beat drops and FX that keeps the song feeling modern and polished. I am very eager to see this new girl group flourish and see where their debut single takes them.
