‘Orchid’: The Leading Single From Stovetop Gemini’s New EP

by Caitlin Dennis | April 30th , 2025

Stovetop Gemini is an alternative four-piece band from Colorado that is quickly making their way up in the Denver music scene. Their sound blends that classic alternative rock-y sound with funk and soul that reminds me of some of the sounds of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Foo Fighters, and Nirvana mixed with lofi-beats in an intriguing new blend that makes me want to keep listening.

They are just about to release their latest EP, “Karyo” on May 9th. If you are in the Denver area, they are also playing an EP release show on May 3rd at Lost Lake with Idle Freaks and Hope-bound that looks like it’s going to be an exciting show (You can find more info on that show on Stovetop Gemini’s Instagram)!

Ahead of the EP release, they released a single from the EP titled ‘Orchid’ back on April 21st. The song hooked me in right away, it definitely sounds like it belongs on a few of my playlists.

The song opens with a soft guitar medley and drum beat guiding you into the opening lyrics. The tension quickly builds as the vocals take over. The subtle rasp and depth to lead Mick’s voice fuels the emotion of the song. Throughout the whole song, it almost feels like a roller coaster, building up to a peak in instrumentals and vocals before coming back down to a mellow sound to reflect on the heat of the moments before.

The lyrics detail the push and pull of navigating conflicting feelings of emptiness and attention at the same time. This feeling is echoed with a second line of lyrics sung simultaneously behind the lead vocals describing these feelings; “And I don’t deserve this kind of attention, this reflection of myself, it's just not right, I don’t like feeling empty.” The song continues into the chorus with strong, full vocals that pull you in further to the waves of tension. Following the second chorus, the song falls into muted adlibs from the chorus with bilateral panning of staccato guitar plucks before erupting into an electric guitar solo with powerful drums to close out the song in a feeling of madness that the songs lyrics detail before a final strike of the guitar.

The song as a whole is one of those tunes that makes you want to bob your head and scream along. Definitely one to check out and I’m eager to listen to the rest of the EP (keep an eye out for the EP review on Social Casualty as the release approaches!)!
