On Friday, April 4th, Half Alive (stylized as half•alive) took to the House of Blues in Orlando, FL to put on a dynamic, entertaining, and unique show for fans. Orlando was the sixth stop on their Persona world tour which was slated along-side the release of their new album of the same name. Half Alive, who have been classified as indie pop, alternative, dance-pop, and others, brought indie-alt artist Mehro and alternative band The Walters along with them on tour, filling the room with high energy before they even came out.
Starting the night off strong was artist Mehro (pronounced like marrow or it’s over there-o, shared the artist) who helped by warming up the crowd before Half Alive came on. Mehro’s set included six songs from his discography including popular track “Ketamine” that had several fans singing along with the artist. Stopping to engage the crowd between songs, Mehro had a great handle at being on the stage and set a great opening energy for the next opener, The Walters, and the headliner; Half Alive. Shortly after Mehro’s set ended, the stage was graced by alternative band The Walters, who fit right in with the energy and vibes that were set by the previous opener. Almost immediately, fans were excited and dancing, even if they didn’t know the words. Lead singer Luke Olsen brought an electric energy to the stage, finding himself in nearly every corner to interact with both his band and the fans.
When it was finally time for Half Alive to take stage, the fans were vibrating with energy before the band even took stage. To kick off their set, the two monsters who have been the faces of the Persona album came out to the title track; starting with one monster, who was looking for the other. The two monsters then took stage together, engaging the fans and sharing a hug before being escorted off. The two monsters from the album represent wearing a mask and being afraid to show your true self, which ties in themes of the respective album. Once Half Alive took stage, they started with track “Sophie’s House” immediately having fans on their feet singing and dancing along. By the time the next song had rolled around, fans pulled out colored paper to light their phone lines with, creating a beautifully colored room only two full songs into their set.
As the night continued, the energy kept in the room as the band continued with songs from Persona like “Lie, Lie” and older hits that had the venue as loud as could be like “still feel.” and “RUNAWAY.”; the closing song for the night. The band was also joined by dancers on stage, which isn’t anything new for them in both music videos and other live performances. The live dancers created a unique and fun air about the show, even including a dance interlude about halfway throughout the set. The band even sang what fans believe is an unreleased song, though it was gracefully slipped into the set without much word. The music continued solidly, not many pauses or breaks to be able to fit in a jam-packed twenty-one song setlist, though not a fan was complaining; even fans on the balcony watching, singing, and even slow dancing along all night until the band concluded; though it can be assumed fans would’ve loved even more from them, if it was possible.
As this was only the sixth show of the Persona world tour, you can catch Half Alive and their openers the the rest of April in the US, and to UK, Europe, and Australia into the summer.
