Avery Lynch is a LA based singer songwriter with over 400 million streams known for her powerful ballads filled with the reflection of heartbreak and coming of age. A head of a new project this fall, this friday Avery Lynch released her latest single ‘Lasting Effects.’

The track opens in a hushed tone, guitar strings plucked lightly setting a somber scene. The song details the raw aftermath of a breakup, echoing the ache of a heart that was broken. The track as a whole is a great representation of finding yourself again after seeing yourself through the eyes of your partner and what you think they want you to be. One particular line that stood out to me was “...and I found out that I like my voice from my own mouth and I kinda hate the way your’s sounds, and you thought that you left me wrecked.” I’m sure one too many people out there can relate to the struggle to find your voice, let alone finding it after what was supposed to be love.

The music production is a beautiful compliment to the content of the song. An acoustic, quiet, almost bittersweet guitar melody graces the entire track, carrying these almost alluring harmonies, hums, and echoes of Avery’s voice. We are taken on a journey of musical highs and lows between the verses and the chorus, while the guitar remains a constant guide through the song.  Her vocals are a wonderful blend of smooth and raw at the same time, mimicking the journey of the lyrics. If you are a fan of that light, airy, and soothing voice that dances atop the music this is a perfect song for you. It fits right into that bittersweet indie-pop breakup music sound, while still displaying the uniqueness that Avery can bring to the table as an artist and songwriter.

All the build up of the song comes to fruition at the end, when the music fades out, and quiet guitar chords and echos bring out these final raw moments where we only hear Avery’s voice and her say one final time, “...these were your lasting effects.”

It was a beautifully done song and I will definitely be on the lookout for her future projects, and she is definitely on the list the next time I need some good breakup music.
