look at fiona. Release Their Shimmering New Single “4play” & Chat About What’s Next For the Band!

by Lilli Newhouse | January 5th, 2026

On January 1st, 2026 Denver based indie band look at fiona. released their newest single 4play. Following the release of the new single, look at fiona. plans to release their sophomore EP in mid-January and embark on their first tour, spanning from the desert to the shore. According to the Press release the band says “4play is a song about yearning, patience, and warmth– exploring the fuzzy and innocent feelings of developing a crush. “It’s pretty ironic that the song has a ‘suggestive’ name but is lyrically so tame and innocent,” says bassist Gabby Trownsell. “The name didn’t really have any meaning, it just kind of felt right.” 4play is look at fiona.’s most euphoric and expansive track to date.

look at Fiona’s sophomore EP “fionafionafiona” is out January 15th and you can listen to 4play right now!

How did your journey into music begin?

“After first crossing paths in our university's songwriting ensemble, Kennady and Jeremy shared an emotional clarity like nothing they had ever experienced. In the same songwriting ensemble, exactly a year after finding Jeremy, Kennady met Gabby and hit it off instantly. We invited our friend Charlie to play drums at a rehearsal, and it was otherworldly. look at fiona. was born :p”

Who were your biggest musical influences growing up?

Jeremy: “The Beatles, Mr Twin Sister, John Lennon, Beach House, Still Corners, Owen Ashworth, Jessica Pratt, Mazzy Star, The Radio Dept., Deerhunter, Blonde Redhead.”

Charlie: “U2, Prince, Have a Nice Life, and old Bakersfield country.”

Kennady: “Maroon 5, The Killers, The Fray, Vampire Weekend, Radiohead, Coldplay, Clairo, Faye Webster, and Sam Phillips.”

Gabby: “Panic! at the Disco Live in Denver 2006. Genuinely lifechanging. Also The Smashing Pumpkins, Hum, Beach House, Origami Angel, The Antlers, Dear and the Headlights, and everyone in the Denver hardcore scene. Shoutout Convulse :p”

Fiona the cat!

What’s the story behind your artist name?

“In the early days of songwriting as a duo, Kennady and Jeremy had been toiling over what to call themselves. Our friend Emelia has a cat named Fiona. One day Jeremy was feeling pretty down and Kennady texted him a sweet picture of the cat and said “look at fiona,” in an attempt to cheer him up. He loved the phrasing and immediately heard a melody in his head. This melody would become our self titled track! “I remember thinking, ‘oh this would be a great band name, but if not, I’d at least want it as a song title.’” says Jeremy.

Is there a lyric of yours that you’re especially proud of?

“In this world I am taken as I am.”

“Fighter insects, send the army.”

“Staring gently at the backlit dancers gliding through no sound.”

“I was told that I control blue memories.”

“I’m a city I’m a village”

“ooowoahooowoahoowoah”

What are you most excited for in 2026?

“Tour!!!!!!!!!!!! Also writing an album. And releasing our sophomore EP January 15th ;P”

What do you hope people feel when they listen to your music?

“Everything they need to.”

How has your sound evolved since your first release?

“We’re very different people now compared to when we wrote our first EP. We have so much love and respect for that point in our lives, but the verses have different meanings to us now. We’ve also embraced becoming a full band and letting the project take on a new color.”

If you had to describe your music in three words, what would they be?

“look at fiona.”

What’s something fans might be surprised to learn about you?

“None of us are named fiona lol.”

If your music were a movie, what would the plot be?

“In Stratford-Upon-Avon, birthplace of William Shakespeare, Miss Capulet and Mr. Montague feud over whose garden is the better. Garden gnomes that decorate each neighbor's flower beds continue the rivalry when the humans aren't looking, and gnomes from the Red Gardens don't get along with those of the Blue Gardens. Then Gnomeo (James McAvoy), a Blue, and Juliet (Emily Blunt), a Red, fall in love, leaving many obstacles to overcome.”

What’s coming next for you?

“Our sophomore EP “fionafionafiona” is out January 15th! We’re also going on tour! We wanna have our first full length album out by the end of the year. We’d love to visit the east coast too. Jeremy wants to see a starfish and/or puffin.”

What was the most challenging part of making your latest project?

“Definitely our timeline. We cranked out the whole recording process in about a month. There’s literally no way we could’ve done it without our incredible producer Alison (@mix.ephemera). Love youuuu”

What role does social media play in your creative or professional life?

“We all hate it but oh boy are we on it. Kennady is running our Tiktok like the f*cking Navy. Gabby is our ad guy. We hope one day we can delete all our apps forever and go outside. Maybe touch some grass?”
