There’s something about a phone call with your mom — especially when you’re teetering between the edge of girlhood and something more complicated — that feels like both a grounding ritual and an emotional unraveling. That quiet paradox sits at the heart of On the phone with my mom, the breathtaking debut album from indie-pop singer-songwriter Maddie Regent.

Co-created with producer-songwriter (and real-life partner) Cade Hoppe, On the phone with my mom is an emotionally-charged coming-of-age album that dances between vulnerability and power.

“I wanted to make a project that my 16-year-old self would love,” Maddie says, citing artists like MARINA and Lana Del Rey as core inspirations. The album’s sound honors those roots — theatrical, synth-drenched, and lush with feeling — while carving out her own lane.

“The central concept of this album is the transition from girlhood to womanhood, which is something that feels deeply personal and important to me,” she explains. “I wanted to capture the uncertainty that comes with growing up, and how that feeling of not knowing what's next never really stops.“

That tension of duality, of trying to arrive somewhere without knowing where that is — plays out not just in the lyrics, but in the shifts across the album.

“I hope that people who listen to this album can feel like there's nothing wrong with being emotional or feeling different,” Maddie says. “Growing up isn’t something that happens all at once or ends at a certain age—it’s a continuous, evolving process.”

With On the phone with my mom, Maddie Regent doesn’t just announce her arrival — she invites listeners into the middle of her transformation. It’s not a clean before-and-after narrative, and that’s the point. This is a record for anyone who’s ever felt caught between identities, uncertain of the next step, but brave enough to keep going anyway.

As for new fans just discovering her music? Maddie has a simple message: “Thank you for listening to my music, it means so much to me! I’m super excited for what’s coming next, so be sure to follow me for updates :)”

If this album is any indication, Maddie Regent won’t be on the phone for long — the world’s already listening.
