P1Harmony’s 8th mini album/EP “DUH!” is a bold genre-mixing standout that feels like a re-debut with a new maturity and lens of artistry. The six-member K-pop boy group, often known for their impressive choreography, powerful vocal line, and often boundary-pushing sound, now changes their trajectory with a dynamic six-track mini album. Reflecting the early 2000s hip hop/pop sounds, anchored by K-pop precision, and elevated by the group’s unmistakable identity, “DUH!” feels like P1Harmony in their purest, most unapologetic form.

From the start, the mini album comes in hot with something to say! The title track, “DUH!”, starts the record with a fiery, authentic early 2000s pop sound, driving drums, playful and catchy lyrics, and a melody that grabs your attention from the start. It’s a charisma and energy-filled anthem that will be on my rotation for months to come. The group switches between their rappers, Jiung, Intak, and Jongseob’s tight, rapid-fire raps and beautifully polished melodic lines from Keeho and Theo, emphasizing their versatility. Lyrically, “DUH!” is cheeky yet confident and sets the tone for the album, embedded in unpredictability and self-assurance.

The album then switches to a smoother and groovier tune, “Pretty Boy,” a reggaeton-inspired percussion with more laid-back vocals, creating a fun, dancey, summery environment. This song also tastefully depicts the group's maturity with the song's lyrics about individuality and self-worth. “Pretty Boy” is an unapologetic anthem with a beat that just captures your attention and stays in your mind for days to come, and it’s precisely why it's my favorite off the record.

The next track is “Murmur,” which you can tell was composed by Keeho. With its R&B-layered vocals and '90s beat, it's precisely the type of music leader Keeho has been aching to make. The song is a confident rebuttal to many haters and some knetizens, as the group faced a hate train at the beginning of this year—flamboyant and fiery, yet cleverly delivered. Its catchy cadence and lyrical bite make it a standout moment with a charm different from the album.

P1Harmony then shifts into full festival mode with “Flashy,” an EDM-heavy banger that pulses with high-octane energy. It’s a party anthem through and through, complete with a shredding guitar intro and a dance-floor-ready beat—the members volley verses with an effortless synergy that underscores their growth while showcasing their playful side.

The group channels the festival-ready energy characterised by the early 2010s, as they dive headfirst into EDM territory on “Flashy”. This is unquestionably a party song thanks to its dance floor beat and ripping guitar intro. This is another instance in which the group's energy is evident as they trade verses like a well-oiled machine while still having a great time.

Then “Over and Over” comes up, possibly the best song on the album. With its hip-hop groove and catchy saxophone, it exudes grit and coolness. A confident yet unforced side of P1Harmony is displayed in the chorus, which demonstrates their coolness. It’s a showcase for musical maturity and the kind of song that stays with you. “Work,” a hyper-pop/trap anthem, closes the album. It has bold verses resembling a last lap around the previous track, catchy beats, and glitchy synths supporting the song, showcasing Jongseob’s production skills. It’s a powerful ending that defines DUH! as a thrilling, replay-worthy project.
