Shady Angels Release New Music Video For Leading Single Off Their New Album

Shady Angles is a rock band from Spokane, WA formed back in 2021. They recently released their album “Try My Door” last month. Earlier this year however they released one of the leading singles of the album “I am a Superman” that had an accompanying music video also released last month.
The second I hit play on this song it was clear that the band takes influence from Nirvana. The lead singers voice has a similar sound, that lower, more raspy alt-rock tone. Their whole sound is definitely reminiscent of the 90’s grunge rock sound. All of these boys are also quite young, just 17-18 years old, but giving a much older sound. If I didn’t know that these boys were fresh out of high school I would have put the voice in the late 20s.
This is a good thing in my opinion, from what I have seen, being able to give that sort of sound so early on means they’ll be
able to keep it up for a whole lot longer. “I am a Superman” according to band camp, was written for a friend of the band. The
lyrics seem to detail the struggle said friend is going through, and the want for the friend to get better and show that the person telling this story wants to see them make something of themselves.
In the end it seems as though the song says, just give it one more day, wait till tomorrow because tomorrow might be better than today. Musically, the song starts out in more of a slow, steady tune before building into the chorus. Throughout the song it continues to pull back into a more ‘chill’ sound in-between choruses, which plays nicely into the lyrics, with the chorus
being more of a cry out to this friend where as the verses play more gentle as the situation unfolds.
The accompanying music video for this song is your classic live performance taping of the song. The band appears in a small, intimate venue before the show, messing around in the green room and setting up for their set before hoping on stage. A vhs like filter is over the video, definitely playing into the 90’s alt aesthetic they have.
The video continues to feature each band member throughout the song, with shots from all over the venue, from up close and personal to side stage to the back of the venue, giving you the full perspective of the band. You also get to catch a glimpse of the bands live stage presence because of the nature of the video, and all the boys look like they are having a pretty good time, and are definitely comfortable on the stage.
I think it will be exciting to start following this band to see how they grow as I think they definitely have a lot of potential to break into the alt scene. If you are a fan of bands like Nirvana or Pearl Jam these guys are definitely ones to check out!
