“GALA” Showcases XG’s Stylish Sound and Global Flair

XG is a Japanese girl group based in South Korea that debuted in 2022. The group has seven members: Jurin, Chisa, Hinata, Juria, Cocona, Maya, and Harvey. They are known for their unique style and powerful rap performances. Their new single “GALA” is the pre-release track from their upcoming first full album, which is scheduled to be released in January.

“GALA” feels like it was designed for the runway. Dropping right in the middle of fashion week season, the timing couldn’t be more fitting. The track leans fully into their sleek, futuristic aesthetic, with an instrumental that sounds like it belongs in a high-end boutique or on a designer catwalk.

What really ties it all together are the lyrics. From lines like “Seven different looks like a magazine / That means every single day becomes a fashion week” to the unexpected use of French, “Ce soir, je te suis jusqu'à l'infini / Au delà des planètes, à travers les univers”. Everything about the song reinforces their image as a multilingual, global girl group, with English, French, and Japanese all in one track. The French lines in particular add an elegant touch that plays perfectly into the fashion-forward concept.

Jurin’s intro is easily the highlight, in my opinion. It's elegant, surprising, and instantly commanding attention. The rap sections throughout are powerful and punchy as well. My only wish is that the chorus had more of a hook. It’s a polished and pretty track, but it doesn’t stick in your head the way “LEFT RIGHT” did.

Still, as a whole, it’s a song that screams XG. Very stylish, global, and effortlessly on-brand.
