Give Me A Sign - Maris Ft. Caroline Kingsbury

by Kelsie Barlow | April 18th, 2025

On March 14th 2025, rising queer pop artist Maris released Give Me A Sign, an 80’s synth pop song featuring Caroline Kingsbury. In less than 24 hours, the song reached over 130k streams, and currently has over a million streams, and that number is growing every day. Gaining popularity on TikTok, Maris, who has an active presence on the internet, has created a dance to the song that she is hoping will help spread her art in a fun way. I encouraged everyone to make a video dancing to Give Me a Sign, I did and felt it was very cathartic.

Maris and Kingsbury’s musical stylings blend seamlessly to make the perfect queer love song. The song makes it feel like the start of a coming-of-age movie, where you’re waiting for your crush to notice you on prom night. To me, Give Me a Sign is the perfect pop song. It has an addictive beat, layered vocals, and a hook that is sure to get stuck in your head. One of my favorite lyrics in the song is “All I want is what you got, so baby give me a sign, a sign.” This line feels raw and full of emotion, and you can feel like the artists are bearing their hearts to us in a confession of desire and longing. I also love how this collaboration between Maris and Kingsbury is more than just a feature. Kingsbury’s verse is a direct response to the first verse sung by Maris, and the way their vocals come together in the end shows how the song was a journey of two women finding each other. The song ends with a powerful belting from both artists and ultimately concludes with a final repeat of the chorus.

Love songs written with queer relationships in mind are so important in this political climate when there is so much hate and violence towards the LGBTQIA+ community. Online and during shows, Maris and Kingsbury have advocated for the queer community, and have shown great bravery showing their art.

Maris just came off being the opening artist on Maude Latour’s Sugar Water Tour, and Caroline Kingsbury recently finished opening for Pom Pom Squad on the Mirror Ball Tour. Seeing two extremely talented queer artists collaborate on a song like this is refreshing, and inspires hope in times of darkness. Maris has not announced any upcoming tour dates yet, but you’re able to catch Caroline Kingsbury at Lollapalooza 2025. If you’re looking for new music to listen to, I highly recommend Maris and Caroline Kingsbury; they are both rising stars, and I’m looking forward to seeing what other success this song will bring them.
